Who is Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI?
Pope Benedict XVI had chosen Saint Benedict as the figure of his pontificate.
A few hours before the death of John Paul II, when receiving the “Prix Saint-Benoît” awarded by the “Family Life” Foundation, Joseph Ratzinger had taken Saint Benedict of Nursia as a model: “We need men like Benedict of Nursia, which in a time of dissipation and decadence, sank into the most extreme solitude, succeeding, after all the purifications it had to undergo, in ascending to the light. He returned and founded Montecassino, the city on the heights which, in the midst of all these ruins, united the forces from which a new world was created. Thus Benedict, like Abraham, became the father of many peoples”.
“I wanted to call myself Benedict, to connect myself in thought with the venerable Pontiff Benedict XV (1914-1922) who led the Church in a tormented period because of the First World War. He was a courageous and authentic prophet of peace. » Benedict XVI.
We join the condolence with people of Vatican and the faithful all over the world to pray for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI enters the heaven peacefully.
