2023 World Day to combat desertification and drought

  It is a fact that up to 40% of our planet’s land is now degraded and it takes 100 times faster for the natural process to restore. The soil is eroded by unstainable farming. The destruction is now clear, starting from imperiling food production, threatening biodiversity and compounding climate crisis with women and girls are suffered the hardest from lack of food, water scarcity to force migration that result from land mistreatment. Therefore, at this 2023 world day to combat desertification Mr. Guterres calls the attention of chief of nations countries where laws and practices still block women and girls from owning land and to involve them in policymaking.  Now is the time to settle equal land rights and to advance gender equality by eliminating legal barriers for women owning the land. This is the reason for today’s desertification and draught day turns essential.  It is important and strategic in both to protect and to restore building resilience to drought, investing in health, education, and nutrition.
